Privacy Policy
What I collect, why, and the control you have over it. Plain language, no dark patterns.
Effective: June 22, 2026
Who runs this site
Mega Pixel Trends ("the site," "I," or "me") is an independent publication about consumer technology, run by Ben. You can reach me any time at hello@megapixeltrends.com [replace with your real contact email].
What I collect
I try to collect as little as possible. In practice that's:
- Information you give me. If you subscribe to the newsletter, I collect your email address. If you email me, I keep your message and address so I can reply.
- Information collected automatically. Like most websites, my hosting and analytics tools may record standard technical data when you visit — for example your IP address, browser and device type, referring page, and the pages you view. This is used in aggregate to understand what's popular and keep the site working.
- Cookies and similar technologies. Small files stored by your browser. See Cookies & advertising below.
I do not ask for sensitive information, and I don't try to build a detailed profile of you.
How I use it
- To send you the newsletter you signed up for (and nothing else without your okay).
- To operate, secure, and improve the site, and to understand which articles are useful.
- To display advertising that helps keep the site free (see below).
- To respond to you when you get in touch.
I don't sell your personal information.
Cookies & advertising
Cookies are small text files a website (or its partners) stores in your browser. This site may use:
- Essential cookies needed for the site to function.
- Analytics cookies that help me see, in aggregate, how the site is used [name your analytics tool here — e.g., Google Analytics, or a privacy-friendly option like Plausible or Fathom].
- Advertising cookies. I may run ads through a third-party ad network [e.g., Google AdSense]. These partners may use cookies to measure and, depending on your settings, personalize the ads you see. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
You're in control. You can opt out of personalized Google advertising via Google Ads Settings, opt out of many other vendors at aboutads.info and YourAdChoices, and block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works.
[If you have visitors in the EU, UK, or California, you'll likely also need a cookie-consent banner that asks permission before non-essential cookies load. I can add one — ask the site owner.]
Third-party services
I rely on a few reputable services to run the site. Each only receives the data it needs, and each has its own privacy policy:
- Email newsletter — [your provider, e.g., Buttondown, Mailchimp, ConvertKit], which stores and sends to your subscriber email.
- Website hosting — [your host, e.g., Netlify, Vercel, Cloudflare Pages].
- Analytics — [your analytics tool].
- Advertising — [your ad network].
I'm not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties; please review their policies for details on how they handle data.
Affiliate & referral links
Some posts contain affiliate or referral links — for example, a Tesla referral link. If you click one and make a purchase or sign up, I may receive a small benefit or commission, at no extra cost to you. Clicking such a link may also take you to a third-party site that sets its own cookies and collects its own data under its own privacy policy. I only link to products I genuinely use or recommend, and these relationships never change what I write.
Your choices & rights
Newsletter: every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. You can also email me to be removed.
If you're in the EEA or UK (GDPR): you have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. The legal bases I rely on are your consent (for the newsletter) and legitimate interests (for running and securing the site). You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
If you're in California (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. I do not sell your personal information. You won't be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
To exercise any of these, email hello@megapixeltrends.com [your contact email] and I'll respond within a reasonable time.
Data retention & security
I keep your information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected — newsletter data until you unsubscribe, and analytics data per my tools' standard retention. I take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage online is 100% secure, so I can't guarantee absolute security.
This site may be hosted or processed in the United States or other countries. If you access it from elsewhere, your information may be transferred to and processed in a country with different data protection laws than your own.
Children's privacy
This site is intended for a general, adult audience and is not directed to children. I don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). If you believe a child has provided me information, contact me and I'll delete it.
Changes & contact
I may update this policy from time to time. When I do, I'll change the "Effective" date at the top, and significant changes may be noted on the site. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
